لویی کالافرت با زبان ساده از زندانی که انسان‌ها برای خود ساخته‌اند و از آرزوهای بربادرفته‌شان سخن می‌گوید. بی‌تفاوتی انسان‌ها نسبت به آن‌چه در خارج از زندگی و عادات روزمره‌شان رخ می‌دهد، خواننده را به خود می‌آورد و منقلب می‌کند. این نمایش‌نامه برنده‌ی جایزه‌ی ایبسن در سال ۱۹۸۷ شد و نویسنده‌اش لویی کالافرت در سال ۱۹۸۴ برای مجموعه‌ آثارش جایزه‌ی بزرگ شهر پاریس و در سال ۱۹۹۲ جایزه‌ی بزرگ ملی ادبیات فرانسه را از آنِ خود کرد.
