نویسنده در کتاب پيش رو با اقتباس از يكي از افسانه هاي برادران گريم به نام “هانسل و گرتل”، دست به خلق داستاني رمزآلود و ترسناك زده است. دو خواهر و برادر به نام گرتل و هانسل براي فرار از دست والدين خود و يافتن يك خانواده ي مهربان، قصر را ترك مي كنند و قدم به دنياي بزرگ و وحشي مي گذارند. آن ها با خطرات بسياري مانند مواجهه با يك زن سرآشپز بچه خوار روبه رو مي شوند.
