اوکتاویو پاز از مهمترین شاعران قرن بیستم، زندگی ادبی و حرفه ای پرفراز و نشیبی داشت. او در سال 1914 در مکزیکوسیتی به دنیا آمد و در 54 سالگی در همین شهر چشم از جهان فروبست وی جایزه نوبل ادبیات را در 1990 دریافت کرد. سخنرانی اش با عنوان «در جستجوی اکنون» از مشهورترین خطابه های تاریخ نوبل است. پاز را شاعر عشق و دوستی نامیده اند شعرهای او راهی بر انسانیت و قلمروهای ناشناخته هستی می گشاید.
