کتاب حاضر برگزیدهای است از اشعار فریدون مشیری (1379-1305) دربارهی ایران که آنها را اشعار ایراندوستانهی مشیری مینامند. افزون بر این، کتابی دیگر از مشیری با نام "با پنج سخنسرا" که در سال 1372 منتشر شد نیز ضمیمهی کتاب است. در این کتاب قطعاتی گردآوری شده که فریدون مشیری برای شعرای بزرگ ایرانزمین؛ فردوسی، نظامی، خیام، سعدی و حافظ سروده است.
