چهار دختر خانواده «مارچ» برای کریسمس چیزهای زیادی میخواهند؛ اما هر کدام فقط یک دلار دارند. پدرشان در جبهههای جنگ است و مادرشان به سختی کار میکند. دخترها تصمیم میگیرند با پولشان برای مادر هدیههایی بخرند و... . آنها در روزهای سخت، دلشان به هم خوش است و در کنار مادرشان هر روز ماجراهایی به ظاهر ساده، اما تأثیرگذار را سپری میکنند
