هرى به کمک دامبلدور، مدیر مدرسه، به راز فناناپذیرى «لرد ولدمورت» پى برده و قصد دارد باکشف نابودى جان پیچ هاى اینجادوگر سیاه، جامعه را از شر او و جنایتهاى بیرحمانه‌اش نجات دهد. او به کمک دو دوست صمیمی‌اش، رند و هرمیون براى یافتن اینجان پیچ‌ها تلاش کرده و سرانجام همه جان پیچ‌ها را با تلاش بسیار نابود می‌کند و پس از نبردى که در مدرسه جادوگرى هاگوارتز در می‌گیرد، سرانجام لرد ولدمورت با تسیلم خویش از بین می‌رود.
