مرد جوانی صبح روز بعد از ازدواج خود، به دلیلی نامعلوم خودش را در آبشار نیاگارا پرت میکند و دست به خودکشی میزند. همسر او اریا، زن سیساله و سادهای است که فکر میکرده با این ازدواج، به اوج خوشبختی رسیده و درست سر مرز سیسالگی، از پیردخترشدن گریخته است. اما حالا تنها با یک روز زندگی مشترک، نام عروس بیوهی آبشار را روزنامههای شهر به او میدهند.
