کتاب«تیمون آتنی» یکی از پنج نمایشنامه پایانی ویلیام شکسپیر است و به نظر میرسد در سالهای ۱۶۰۷ تا ۱۶۰۸ نگاشته شده باشد. ویلیام شکسپیر این نمایشنامه را همزمان با شاه لیر، به رشته تحریر درآورده است. این نمایشنامه دربارۀ نجیبزادهای است که دستودلباز است و به اطرافیانش بسیار کمک میکند، اما در زمان تنگنا هیچکدام از آنها به دادش نمیرسند و باعث میشوند تیمون از زندگی، دنیا و بشر بیزار شود.
