«سیمبلین» نمایشنامهای تراژیک است که در سال ۱۶۰۹ نوشته شده است. سیمبلین، پادشاه انگلستان، از اینکه دخترش ایموژن با پوستوموس، نجیبزاده جوان و نسبتاً خوب و پسر یکی از نجیبزادگان دربار، مخفیانه ازدواج کرده سخت عصبانی است. او سالها در نظر داشته است ایموژن با کلوتن، ناپسری شاه و فرزند ملکه کنونی از شوهر پیشین خود ازدواج کند. بنابراین داماد ناخواسته خود را از دربار طرد میکند، بیآنکه به دخترش اجازه خروج از کاخ را بدهد و….
