این رمان داستان رمزگشاییهای جنایی و تاریخی را دنبال میکند. شخصیت اصلی، رابرت لنگدون، استاد سمبولیسم مذهبی در دانشگاه هاروارد، به همراه سوفی نوو، یک رمزنگار فرانسوی، در پی حل یک قتل مرموز در موزه لوور پاریس هستند. در جریان تحقیق، آنها با رمزها و پیامهای مخفی در آثار لئوناردو داوینچی روبهرو میشوند که اسرار بزرگی دربارهٔ تاریخ مسیحیت و کلیسای کاتولیک پنهان کرده است.
