ارنستو ساباتو نویسنده مطرح آرژانتینی است که در سال ۱۹۸۴ برنده جایزه ادبی سروانتس شده است. او در سال ۱۹۱۱ متولد و در سال ۲۰۱۱ درگذشت. ساباتو به غیر از «فرشته ظلمت» چند رمان دیگر نیز در کارنامه دارد. «تونل» و «درباره قهرمانان و گورها» دیگر کتاب‌هایی هستند که پیش از این از ساباتو منتشر شده‌اند.
