چون زندگانی این پادشاعان غالبا با کشمکش و بدبختیها ورنج توأم بوده، این کتاب را «تاجداران تیرهبخت» نام نهاد و مشتمل است بر سه جلد به شرح زیر: جلد اول - شرح احوال داریوش سوم - یزدگرد سوم. جلد دوم - شرح احوال عمرولیث صفاری - سلطان مسعود غزنوی ابراهیم منتصر سامانی - سلطان جلالالدین خوارزمشاه - شاه منصور مظفری از سلسله آلمظفر. جلد سوم - شرح احوال شاه سلطان حسین صفوی - لطفعلی خان زند - احمد شاه قاجار.»
