قره‌سو نام رودخانه‌اي در كرمانشاه است و افغاني، نويسنده‌اي است كه به شيوه رئاليزم اجتماعي مي‌نويسد. او اين كتاب را در سال ۱۳۴۴ با بهره‌گيري از شيوه زندگي عادي مردم كوچه و بازار خلق كرده است. به زعم برخي منتقدان، توصيفات زيبا و شخصیت‌پردازی‌هاي دقيق، از ويژگي‌هاي اين كتاب به شمار مي‌آيند.
